We have a new member at our team here at Wonky HQ - Meet Charlie!

Home /News /

Well, today the snow finally arrived! First thing this morning, pre gritters and snow ploughs, it all looked very pretty. I opened the back door to show my two dogs, and Bailey (who is older and wiser) took one look, huffed and went back to his bed. Charlie on the other hand was running around the garden absolutely loving it! For those of you who haven’t met Charlie, Charlie is new to us. We got him last year after we lost our beautiful golden boy Brodie. We felt that Bailey was missing his buddy (as were we) and we were so lucky to meet this little guy. He has fitted in just perfectly here!

So, a little update to our current situation. We are still in Level 4, which means as a non-essential shop I cannot open to the public or hold any training classes. However, I have been busy behind the closed doors and continue to go to the workshop each day to make up your lovely orders - which I am extremely grateful for - and stock up on new ranges of fabric, haberdashery, and embroidery kits. As always I am contactable via phone 07551414821, email louise@wonkygiraffe.co.uk or through my website www.wonkygiraffe.co.uk. I am posting out orders daily and I can deliver locally, so that I can keep all my lovely customers busy!!

Wolfratsen Embroidery Kits

I am always on the lookout for new products for you all and I have been in touch with a lovely lady called Myrte Biondic who is the inspiration and designer behind the beautiful Wolfratsen embroidery. Myrte lives in Rotterdam in the Netherlands and has designed all the kits herself. She works from home (actually at her dining room table like most of us at the moment!) and has always loved needlework. She said it all started when she was looking for something different to do that would energise and excite her, as well as give her something she could relax and focus on. She says that when she is working on one piece, she is already thinking about the next one. She has so many lovely ideas and is extremely passionate about her embroidery. I have been working with Myrte and she has made up a beautiful selection of 20 designs for us. Each kit includes an embroidered pattern printed on fabric (Approx 12”x12”), printed pattern for colour guidance and suggested DMC colour options. The kits are beginner friendly, so if you haven’t tried your hand at this before then these are perfect! Equally, if you enjoy doing embroidery these are fantastic projects which are just a little bit different and not too big, so you will get them completed in no time! Since they don’t include the threads, we have been able to keep the costs down, and they are great for using up your own embroidery thread; you can follow the recommended colours or go wild and create your own designs!

Aurifil Threads

I am delighted to announce that I have been approved as an official stockist for Aurifil threads. My Aurilfil unit and stock arrived yesterday and is now all loaded onto my website. Previously, I had stocked a few reels of Aurifil thread in limited colours because it is a thread I love to work with, and the few people who purchased them also loved them and asked for more... so I decided to enquire about becoming a stockist!

For those of you who haven’t used Aurifil threads, they are an accomplished Italian company based in Milan, who specialise in the production of 100% Cotton threads from the Mako region of Egypt. The threads have achieved worldwide success thanks to a dedicated tribe of quilters, sewists, embroiderers, and textile artists who herald the thread for its versatility, its strength, and the fact that it produces virtually no lint... and so is great for your sewing machines!

The delivery of the fabric lines is slightly behind schedule at the moment due to import issues, however the suppliers are doing a great job in keeping us regularly updated on their whereabouts. They are running about 4-6 weeks behind, but hopefully that will improve over the coming months once things settle down. I am continuing to source different fabric lines and I have ordered the Scandi Christmas 2021 range which will be due in in June! Yes, you read right I have ordered this year’s Christmas range already!

As always, I would like to finish by saying a huge thank you to you all for your continued support and helping me spread the word of ‘The Wonky Giraffe’ to your fellow crafters when you can. It really means the world and I am extremely grateful to you all. Thank you also to all the people who replied to my request about holding craft classes. These are all on hold just now but we have got some great ideas and plans for when we can meet up,  including classes in embroidery, Temari Balls, Felting, Fabric Flowers, Fabric Wreath and Christmas Decorations. All being well, and the world being back on track, I am planning to have an early Christmas at Wonky HQ (Aug/Sept/Oct) to get lots made in time for Christmas 2021. We have to think positively and hope there will be some level of normality by then! There were other requests made so I have taken note of these and will look to incorporating them in to our program.

Take care, stay safe and speak to you all soon.

Louise xx
